The purpose of the ushers is to welcome parishioners as they come for worship and to guide them to vacant seats; they also to take up the collections. They assign parishioners to present the gifts of bread and wine at the Offertory. When the church is crowded, they assist in the orderly progression of communicants to the Eucharistic Ministers. Before and after Masses bulletins are distributed and pews are checked for items left behind. Assistance is given to new parishioners with small children in locating the "crying room". Ushers also assist those who wish to sign the register and become members of the parish.
