Why Catholic? Is a Journey through the Catechism.  Why Catholic? is a unique adult faith formation process solidly based on Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and updated to include citations from the newly published United States Catholic Catechism for Adults.

Offers a concrete approach to help adults deepen their Catholic faith and connect its teachings to their everyday lives.

  •  Thorough exploration of Catholic teaching, with direct Catechism quotes, scriptural references, and reflection questions
  •  Includes 48 sessions on Catholic beliefs, sacraments, morality, and prayer  The four books that will be covered are: Profession of Faith - What we believe, The Celebration of the Christian Mystery - Sacraments, Life Christ -  Walking with God, Christian Prayer - Deepening my Experience of God.  Each book is covered in 12 sessions.
  •  Occurs in a prayerful small community setting directed by a small group leader.  Small Group Leaders will receive training on mentoring the class and materials being shared.
  •  Groups meet once a week and each session last approximately an hour and half.  The day(s) of the week that the sessions will be offered will be determined by individual needs of those participating.
  •  Participates are required to bring a Bible to each session and are encouraged to either purchase or borrow a Catechism of the Catholic Church.   Each participate is required to purchase each of the four book mentioned above at a cost of $12.95 each.

“The sign of the cross has always been a gesture of habit… Since I started Why Catholic? I stop and reflect on the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.”

Veronica M.
Flemington, NJ

“Why Catholic? has raised the level of conversation in my parish. Knowing why we are Catholic affects daily life.”

Bob Z.

A Disciple’s Prayer

Loving God and Father,
help us to be people of prayer,
committed to the person and message of Jesus your Son.

Help us to grasp the integrity and beauty
of the truths of our faith and
the transforming power of your grace.

Nourish and strengthen us as people of faith,
disciples of Jesus, committed to the mission of the Church
and eager to share the gospel without restraint.

Let our hearts burn within us
as we catch glimpses of your heart in Jesus,
for through him, we know your loving plan for us.

We ask this through Jesus the Christ who lives
with you and the Holy Spirit
in one loving Trinity. Amen
